Ember found her match! She is working as a mobility service dog in Wisconsin.
When Ember's litter was 6 weeks old, Steven and I traveled to her breeder's home and performed the volhard puppy aptitude test on all seven puppies. Ember, or "Red Collar Female," as she was then known, performed the best out of the entire litter.
We received and began training Ember in the fall of 2022 when she was 12 weeks old. Since then, Steven and I have poured our hearts into this fluffy poodle.
She has been a treat to train, and she has added so many laughs into our lives over the past two years. We've watched her as she grew from a razor-toothed monster terrorizing all of the other animals, to a well-mannered, fun-loving adult.
It's never easy to raise a service dog in training (SDiT) - there were times we wondered if she would make it as a service dog, and others when our hearts swelled with pride as she overcame her hurtles.
It is the hardest thing in the world, opening up our home and our hearts to these dogs, working through challenges and throwing our lives into training and socializing, finally seeing them become the dog they were meant to be, then watch them go to another.
And it's also the most rewarding thing we can ever do. Seeing bonds form and lives change as our dogs are placed with their families - that is the best feeling in the world, and it makes everything worth it.
