We customize tasks for each client’s needs.
We place our service dogs with children and adults of all ages.
A consultation is needed to provide an accurate quote for all service dog needs.

Placing Professionally Trained Service Dogs
Most of our clients at Nexus Trails are seeking professionally trained service dogs. These are dogs that are selected, socialized, and trained by our team at Nexus Trails. Once the dog is ready, they are placed with their partners and ready to work as a service dog.
We provide our new families with a service dog placement course. During this course, new handlers work extensively with our instructors to learn everything they need to know about transitioning, bonding, and handling with their new service dog. We provide continued support for the life of your service dog.
During training and socialization of our program dogs, we're constantly evaluating their temperament, personality, and preferences. This deep understanding of our dogs allows us to ensure good matches with their future handlers. We can ensure they will enjoy their job, be good at their tasks, and be happy in their new environment.
If our current available program dogs aren't the perfect match for you, we will find and train the right dog for you!
Our Program Service Dogs are typically $15,000 - $30,000 depending on the time needed for training.
See our FAQ page to understand the pricing of our service dogs.
We will perform a Temperament Test with you and determine if your dog is right for service work, and for the specific tasks you need. If they do, we will work with you in our board & train program, owner train program, or a customized combination of the two.
If we don't recommend service training for your dog, we can assist you in finding a dog suitable for your needs.
If you are purchasing or adopting a puppy as a service dog prospect, we can help you make a good choice. Our trainers will help you conduct a series of tests on each puppy you are looking at. You will get feed back about strengths and weakness of the puppies and recommendations for which puppy to select.
If you are unsure if your dog has what it takes to become a service dog, we can help you temperament test for suitability. Our trainers will help you conduct a series of tests and observe your dog in public. You will get feedback about strengths and weakness a dog has and recommendations for further training of the dog should they be a suitable candidate.
If your dog is not a suitable candidate, we can assist you in finding a dog suitable for your needs.
The Public Access Test is a voluntary test that service dog teams take to prove they are ready for working in public. In the US this test is not required, however, many handlers like to take this test to ensure that their dog is trained up to organizational standards. This test can be in-person or virtual. If it is virtual, you will require phone capable of video calls and a helper to manage the phone. Our test is based on the Assistance Dog International's standards.
The first step to our board & train is a service dog temperament test. If your dog is a candidate, you may be eligible for our BT program! We welcome your dog into our home and provide a high level of obedience, socialization, public access, and task training necessary for them to become your service dog.
If you live nearby, we can arrange for visits, weekend-at-home options, and/or breaks at home with you from time to time before their training with us is complete.
All of our Board & Trains include:
*We do not accept dogs who show aggression into any of our service dog training programs. If you are unsure whether it's aggression or not, reach out!
PUPPY FOUNDATIONS, OBEDIENCE, & SOCIALIZATION
We are more than happy to work with your puppy in socializing and foundational obedience. While they are with us, we will build confidence, socializing skills, and a puppy who loves to learn. We then teach you how to continue training and socializing as your puppy matures.
We have two puppy training options: 1) A "joint custody" type of training - the puppy goes back and forth between home and training as they age. 2) We do all the initial foundations in one board & train and then continue with private sessions as the puppy matures.
OBEDIENCE & SOCIALIZATION
This program focuses on all basic obedience, advanced obedience, and outbound training. A service dog will need to be able to go anywhere and everywhere, and they will need the confidence in public to be able to ignore the world and focus on their partner.
We will train all of their basic obedience, as well as how to properly socialize them in new environments. We will do some training in your home, and some training in pet friendly places such as public parks, pet friendly department stores, and outdoor cafes. We will train in many environments for a well-socialized and well-mannered dog.
We continue training after your dog has passed a service dog temperament test and has completed one of the following: Puppy Board & Train - Step 1 , Adult Board & Train - Step 1, or the Service Dog Owner Training Program Step 1.
In step 2, we train advanced obedience in public spaces and tasks needed to mitigate your disability.
The length of this training varies based on tasks needed and how quickly your dog picks up on task training. We will develop a ballpark estimate on length before we begin.
This package is for owners who are willing to put in the work! Our trainers will work with you and your dog in public and private settings to teach you how to train your service dog. Owner training is customizable based on your goals with your service dog. You will be given step-by-step demonstrations on how to train your dog from start to finish. Each lesson is with you, your dog, and one of our trainers. You will meet on a regular basis - either once a week or once every other week, depending on your dogs. We will go at your pace to get you and your dog to your training goals.
*We do not accept dogs who show aggression into any of our service dog training programs. If you are unsure whether it's aggression or not, reach out!
